60th birthday bash
October 18th, 2006
We went to my brother Butch’s and his wife Joyce’s 60th birthday party at Ristorante Panorama in Philadelphia on Sunday. It was also their daughter Kelly’s birthday. We had a great time. The food was good and so was the wine. We got a chance to catch up with our relatives and friends.
New pictures are up on my photoalbum.
So, what else has been happening this week. On Monday, I got an estimate to repair my car — $1600. I don’t think my car is worth that. Thinking about what to do.
On Tuesday, we attended my daughter Alicia’s IEP meeting. This was the first time that our OMR case manager has attended only because we forgot to invite her in the past. Our mistake! It was good she was there because she brought a different perspective to our daughter and her graduation in 3 years. Because of lack of state and federal funding, there is not much hope now for services for her. But we are going through all the needed steps just in case. This lack of services makes getting our special needs trust being set up extremely important. I have contacted 2 lawyers to see what they can provide and at what cost.
There were new people at the IEP who we hadn’t met before (speech therapist and classroom teacher). They seemed very nice. However, one thing struck me in a funny way. It was the speech therapist and what her responsibilities are. It just didn’t seem to be a good match, although she probably has excellent credentials. I’m not criticizing this fact, just noting that it was paradoxical to me.
The meeting as a whole went very well. I think Roy and Genevieve and I were on the same page when it came to identifying what works with Alicia instead of what doesn’t work with her. This is needed to continue to be able to help her in an ongoing manner. I also asked the psychologist about her statement that Alicia’s behaviour has changed from physical at times to a very passive non-reponsive behavior. I wanted to try and determine what she thought was the reason behind this. We had a brief discussion which has made me think.
