    Family and friends and more

    June 11th, 2007 (Last modified: 6/13/2007 @ 7:02 am UTC)

We went to my nephew Andrew’s graduation party on Sunday. I had a great time and got a chance to see some of our neighbors whom I haven’t seen in 20 or more years. They were really my brothers friends (Howe, Dennis and Cindy). They looked somewhat the same except with a little aging on top. It was nice to see them again. I only wished my Mom was well enough to come and see them.

Dee the puppy was there and kept all the children happy and occupied, as well as the older children and adults. Kids and puppies seem to fit like pbnj.

Here is the link to the pictures I took.

Tabitha and Luke got there after spending the morning in Manayunk watching the bicycle races. And they didn’t get lost (this time because I had the right directions this time). Donna was there and shared stories of her trip to China. They were fascinating.

The graduate (Andrew) will be heading to Bonaroo in Tennessee in a few weeks and then moving on out to Santa Clara where he begins working with Cisco. Now we will have a super network technical support person in the family we can all ask questions of for help.

Alicia had a good time but was pretty quiet. Alicia “you’re beautiful, it’s true”.

When we got home after 9:00, I was surprised to see the Doo-Wop special program on PBS for the fundraiser. It was pretty cool to hear and remember those songs of the 50′s and 60′s. They were great songs.

    Moving on

    May 6th, 2007

Nothing ever stays permanent, nor should it (in many cases). Ideas change. Research improves our knowledge of things, helping us make better decisions (we hope). We get older and retire or die. Our needs change. All of these things cause change and change is good (we are told).

Having just gone through our weekly Springfield Press, I noticed a couple of things. One is that the high school principal is on a sabbatical and has been permanently replaced by someone new. Then, reading further on in the article, the last sentence said (kind of as an aside) that Jim Johnson was leaving the school district to become an elementary school principal in Gladwynne. So, I thought.

Then I realized that my daughter Alicia’s class is graduating this year. Another milestone and moving on. Alicia won’t be graduating with them because she is in another school because of her special needs. Her classmates and friends are going on to college taking the next step in their lives. Alicia’s steps have been small and the rest of her journey remains to unfold.

I remember Jim Johnson from our daughters elementary school days at Sabold. Those were very happy days and the beginning of their education. Elementary education is the key beginning to a child’s expansion of his or her knowledge. It is the beginning to many years in an education system which sometimes looses track of the individual being concerned with the children as a whole. The time spent under Jim’s management was a wonderful time for our daughters. Many of the staff from those days are still there. Jim was an excellent manager, a caring individual, a friend, and concerned citizen of our community. I am very happy for him especially since there are others who value his experience as a principal. Good luck in your new endeavors!

    Graduation

    May 23rd, 2006

This past Saturday was a big day for my oldest daughter Tabitha (and for me, too). She graduated from Widener University, receiving her BA in Government and Politics and Psychology. This was an interesting combination of majors. But I guess you need to know my daughter to understand this. I was very, very proud of her, especially when I saw her accept her degree. She may not think we are proud of her, but we really are. I am also very pleased that she will be returning to Widener in the fall to obtain her Master of Education in Counseling. I hope this leads her to the goals she has set for herself.

I got a few pictures. If you click on this one tabitha, it will take you to my photo album where you can view some additional graduation pictures, as well as everything in my album.
