How to secede
December 12th, 2007
A friend sent me this interesting letter. I hope you enjoy it.
Secede
Dear Red States:
We’re ticked off at the way you’ve treated California and we’ve decided we’re leaving.
We intend to form our own country and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren’t aware that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast.
We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro choice and anti war and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home.
We wish you success in Iraq and hope that the WMDs turn up but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country’s fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
We’re taking the good pot too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.
Sincerely,
Author Unknown in New California.
Neuropuzzles
December 12th, 2007
I found this software referenced in the Braintrainer or Bioexplorer Yahoo group list I belong to and decided to try it out for use with my daughter. I downloaded the trial version. I had a couple of questions which Hans (the software developer) answered quickly and completely (I had trouble installing it in Vista). He also offered to modify the designs I was using to add the neuropuzzles object. So, I took him up on his offer. He sent the 2 design back having replaced the dvd object with the puzzles.
I did a session the other day with my daughter Alicia yesterday afternoon. I should have refreshed my memory by reading the manual again, but I didn’t. So, I wound up doing a 9-and-a-half-minute session straight through, instead of stopping after 3 minutes. My daughter is sort of non-verbal in that she won’t reply to questions. But she does listen and take it all in. So, I talked with her during the session as the manual suggested. As the pieces uncovered, I asked her to guess what the piece was showing and what the picture might be. I told her I saw an “eye” or “ear” or something to keep her focused. I described what I saw being uncovered and asked her to guess what the puzzle was.
So, I think this was good. I sent the session results to our doctor for review. I used the HEG design that Hans modified (which worked well – thank you again Hans) and noticed that perhaps it needs to be modified again for the “color displays” as described in the manual for a visual reward, although in our daughter’s case this might be distracting.
I’ll review this with our doctor and get back to you all. At this point, the trial period is ending soon and I will probably purchase this (although I hope to consult with our doctor about the usefulness with our daughter).

Christmas wish
December 7th, 2007
Someone I know asked what I was going to get for Christmas. My wife and daughters have asked me for my list. What I really want is to be able to do all the things that I have to do and all the things I want to do. This has not been any easy task and is getting harder as I get older. Life just doesn’t cooperate.
I have also been thinking about the loved ones we have lost this year. I kind of dwell on my own feelings and not on others feelings. Although they have similar feelings about those who died. I guess I have taken this for granted and don’t appreciate what each one of us is going through. For example, with the recent loss of my Mom, I know that my brothers and I are feeling sad and empty especially at this time of year, but I haven’t taken the time to consider that our wives are also feeling the loss, maybe even more than us. Moms and daughters or daughter-in-laws seem to have a special bond. I know that they had this bond with my Mom. So, maybe they have much more to deal with that we, her sons.
If I haven’t told you or tried to comfort you, then I apologize. I will try to do better, although we Wursters are kind of non-emotional most of the time. Some would call us ornery or pains in the butt. That is just who we are. Sorry.
Since then and still learning

I had a chance last night to go to the biofeedback session that Bill does with our daughter. It had been weeks since I had an opportunity to go. He did an EEG session and I noted the numbers. His stabilized around 33/60/13 whereas mine have been around 60/40/12. I tried to determine why mine were different. First, each system is different and each set of electrodes is different and cannot be expected to yield the same results. The difference could also be my lack of experience in placing the electrodes. So, next week I will bring my neuroband and we will see if my placement is correct and then see what the numbers are with Bill’s setup.
I did note that I do not prepare the ground electrode and put goop on it as I should do. I will make sure I do this the next time I do this session at home and check out the numbers then.
Just as an aside, the middle number will increase when the client becomes vocal during the session. So, when Alicia sings along or talks, the number will increase.
And, it’s not the raw numbers that matter. It is the differential that matters and that the training is going in the right direction. In our case, we want to increase all 3 levels.
