Class 1 Access
November 17th, 2005
Databases are hard concepts to understand. And so, Microsoft Access is a harder application to learn than Word, PowerPoint or Excel. It is even harder if you do not have a copy of it to work with and practice what you learn in class.
We discussed the following:
-
1. What is a database? Give examples ranging from the simple address book to the complex accounting system.
- table
- query
- form
- report
- macro
- module
- Design view
- Design Wizard
- Data entry
See the file on tables in the Access downloads area. It is a Word document.
2. How is data stored? Compare to a filing cabinet with drawers and folders.
3. What are the objects that make up a database?
4. Compare the Access table to an Excel spreadsheet.
5. How do you build a table?
6. What can you do with the data once you have it entered into a table?
You can ask questions of the data and get answers. Used an example of student data.
7. Use sorting, filtering, and hiding/unhiding data to provide the answers to your questions.
