Dog-gone it
April 25th, 2007
I took my dog Annabelle to the vet today for a checkup and to see if there was anything I could do concerning the ongoing dog food problems. Since she has not displayed any of the symptoms for the dog food problems, the vet said I didn’t need to do anything. She is overweight, weighing 10 pounds more than this time last year. And I mentioned that she has difficulty going up the stairs and limps sometimes when we walk.
So, he checked her out and found that she was tender in the hip area. They took an xray and found that her joints are not good. They are degenerating. He talked about surgery but only at a last measure to make her comfortable should she get worse. But until that time (if it ever comes), I have things to do. She needs to loose weight and I need to keep her at the 4 cups of food we give her each day (with maybe a slight bit less). The vet wants me to give her found for a 60-pound dog.
I got some anti-inflammatory tablets to give her over the next 10 days (Dearmaxx 100mg). We also got Arthogen tablets to help out with her joints. It contains glucosamine and chondroitin. I need to give her 2 tablets in the morning and one in the afternoon. I just came back from the store with some hot dogs in which I will try to hide the meds. I found that I had to grind up the tablets (since they are chewable) and make a hot dog slice sandwich. This seemed to work well after a got a bite on my finger trying to get her to take the whole tablet.
I’m hoping that by the time I take her back to the vet in July for a lyme disease vaccination, she will have lost 4-5 pounds. We’ll continue our walks and make them a little longer each day to help.
Annabelle

Annabelle is my dog, or should I say, our dog. In April 2006, we will have had her for 3 years. As near as we can figure, she was born around January. She helps me get through life. I think she helps our entire family make it through life.
Last night, she got sick but that was because she ate some of my ice cream. This morning she was doing her “food bowl hiding” thing. Annabelle picks up her food bowl and carries it around to find a good place to eat. She moves it from the kitchen to the living room to eat sometimes. She carries it downstairs to the basement sometimes. At other times, she just carries it around, crying and looking for a place to hide it. She also picks up my socks and does the same thing. She tries to bury these things in our sofa some times. She always looks to cover it up with something. It is cute. I would like to know whey she does this.
If you want to see some pictures of her, please look at the “photos” link at the top of the page.
