I was very involved in the Springfield School District for many years between 1988 and 2004. It was my goal since my children first started school to become involved in their education. After all, it's not just the responsibility of the school district to educate our children. It is the responsibility of the entire community to ensure our children get the best education possible.
If you don't get close communications with your children's schools then you really won't know what is going on. And you may come to a point where you'll say "I didn't know that." And it will be too late to change what has happened. If you keep informed, you have a better opportunity to truly help your children in their education.
And so, I became involved wherever I thought I could make a difference. I was involved in the school district's Mentor Program for 5 years (1993 - 1997). Our goal was to provide different learning experiences for children in the 4th grade Gifted Program.
I was a member of our Community Education Council for a couple of years. I was on the Special Education Advisory Council for several years (1999 - 2002). I participated in the school district's 5-year technology plan in 1994, 1999, and 2004.
